The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board may, by agreements with teacher preparation institutions, arrange for classroom experience in the district for practice or student teachers in an approved teacher preparation program. Such practice and student teachers must be appropriately supervised by a fully qualified teacher under rules adopted by the board. A practice or student teacher must be placed with a cooperating licensed teacher who has at least three years of teaching experience and is not in the improvement process under section 122A.40, subdivision 8, paragraph (b), clause (12), or 122A.41, subdivision 5, paragraph (b), clause (12). Practice and student teachers are employees of the school district in which they are rendering services for purposes of workers' compensation; liability insurance, if provided for other district employees under section 123B.23; and legal counsel under section 123B.25.
