35.821 DEFINITIONS.
Subdivision 1.Scope.
Unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, for the purposes of sections 35.821 to 35.831 the terms defined in this section have the meanings given them.
Subd. 3.Brand.
"Brand" means a permanent identification mark, of which the letters, numbers, and figures used are each four inches or more in length or diameter and applied using the technique of freeze branding or burned into the hide of a live animal with a hot iron, which is to be considered in relation to its location on the animal. The term relates to both the mark burned into the hide and its location. In the case of sheep, the term includes, but is not limited to, a painted mark which is renewed after each shearing.
Subd. 3a.Freeze branding.
"Freeze branding" means the application of an intensely cold iron to the hide of a live animal.
Subd. 4.Mark.
"Mark" means a permanent identification cut from the ear or ears of a live animal and for farmed cervidae, as defined in section 35.153, subdivision 3, means a tag, collar, electronic implant, tattoo, or other means of identification approved by the board.
