     487.02 Payment of expenses. 

    Subdivision 1.  The salary and traveling expenses of a 
 judge of the county court shall be paid by the state in the 
 amount prescribed by section 15A.083.  Expenses shall be paid by 
 the state in the same manner and amount as provided for judges 
 of the district court in section 484.54. 

    Subd. 2.  Except as provided in this subdivision, the 
 county board shall levy taxes annually against the taxable 
 property within the county as necessary for the establishment, 
 operation and maintenance of the county court or courts within 
 the county.  Any county in a judicial district under section 
 480.181, subdivision 1, paragraph (b), as added by Laws 1999, 
 chapter 216, article 7, section 26, is prohibited from levying 
 property taxes for these purposes, except for any amounts 
 necessary to pay the costs incurred in the first six months of 
 calendar year 2000 with respect to counties in the fifth, 
 seventh, and ninth judicial districts.
