221.072 CLASS I CARRIER.

Subdivision 1.Authority.

The board may issue a class I certificate only to a motor carrier who owns, leases, or otherwise controls more than one terminal. Except as provided in subdivision 2, a motor carrier may not own, operate, or otherwise control more than one terminal without having obtained a class I certificate from the board. For purposes of this section, utilization of a local cartage carrier by a class I carrier constitutes ownership, lease, or control of a terminal.

Subd. 2.Exceptions.

This section does not apply to any carrier listed in section 221.111, clauses (3) to (10).

Subd. 3.Operation.

A class I certificate authorizes the certificate holder to transport both truckload and less-than-truckload freight to and from points named in the certificate, over routes described in the certificate. A holder of a class I certificate may transfer freight to and from another class I carrier.
