     124D.85 Indian post-secondary preparation grants. 

    The commissioner of children, families, and learning, with 
 the advice of the Minnesota Indian scholarship committee, may 
 make grants to districts or tribal grant or contract schools to 
 support post-secondary preparation for secondary pupils who are 
 of one-fourth or more Indian ancestry and who, in the opinion of 
 the superintendent, have the capabilities to benefit from higher 
 education.  Distribution of the grants must be in accordance 
 with a plan prepared by the commissioner, with the advice of the 
 Minnesota Indian scholarship committee, that describes the 
 objectives and methods of implementing the grant program, 
 including the manner in which grants will be distributed in 
 proportion to the geographical distribution of the Indian 
 population of the state.
