     161.26 Highway maintained across portion of adjoining 
  state.  

    When a state trunk highway route is so located that in 
 order to properly connect the designated objectives it is 
 advisable to construct and maintain the highway across a portion 
 of an adjoining state, the commissioner is authorized to expend 
 trunk highway funds therefor in the same manner as other 
 expenditures for trunk highway purposes are made.  No such 
 highway or portion thereof shall be established or constructed 
 in any adjoining state until the adjoining state shall first 
 pass legislation consenting thereto and granting the 
 commissioner necessary jurisdiction over the portion of the 
 highway located in the adjoining state.
