7151.5700 OVERFILL PROTECTION.

Subpart 1.

Requirement.

A tank which is filled by transfers of more than 55 gallons at one time must have one of the following systems for overfill protection:

A.

a high-level alarm, set at no greater than 95 percent of the tank's capacity, that is visible or audible to the person controlling the substance transfer;

B.

a system that automatically shuts off the flow of substance into the tank, set at no greater than 95 percent of the tank's capacity;

C.

a permanently mounted sight glass or gauge, visible to the person controlling the substance transfer, that accurately shows the level of substance in the tank; or

D.

a person who manually gauges substance level with a level stick during substance transfer and controls the substance transfer or is in contact with a person who controls the substance transfer.

Subp. 2.

Double-walled tanks.

Double-walled tanks which are not otherwise located within a secondary containment area meeting the requirements of part 7151.5400 must have one of the following systems for overfill prevention:

A.

a high-level alarm, set at no greater than 95 percent of the tank's capacity, that is visible or audible to the person controlling the substance transfer; or

B.

a system that automatically shuts off the flow of substance into the tank, set at no greater than 95 percent of the tank's capacity.

Subp. 3.

Volumetric conversion.

If any level stick, sight glass, or gauge does not read in volumetric measurements and requires conversion, a clearly labeled conversion chart indicating maximum working capacity of the tank must be mounted on the tank or the tank's delivery manifold and visible to the person controlling the substance transfer.
