4731.2200 SURVEYS AND MONITORING.

Subpart 1.

Required surveys.

A licensee must make or cause to be made, surveys that:

A.

may be necessary for the licensee to comply with this chapter; and

B.

are reasonable under the circumstances to evaluate:

(1)

the magnitude and extent of radiation levels;

(2)

concentrations or quantities of radioactive material; and

(3)

potential radiological hazards.

Subp. 2.

Calibration required.

Except as otherwise required in this chapter, a licensee must ensure that instruments and equipment used for quantitative radiation measurements, for example, dose rate and effluent monitoring, are calibrated at intervals not to exceed 12 months for the radiation measured.

Subp. 3.

Dosimeter processing.

All personnel dosimeters, except for direct and indirect reading pocket ionization chambers and those dosimeters used to measure the dose to the extremities, that require processing to determine the radiation dose and that are used by a licensee to comply with part 4731.2020, with other applicable provisions of this chapter, or with conditions specified in a license, must be processed and evaluated by a dosimetry processor that:

A.

holds current personnel dosimetry accreditation from the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology; and

B.

is approved in the accreditation process for the type of radiation or radiations included in the NVLAP program that most closely approximates the type of radiation or radiations for which the individual wearing the dosimeter is monitored.
