An act relating to state employees; increasing the
amount of vacation time a state employee may donate
for the benefit of another state employee; amending
Minnesota Statutes 1990, section 43A.181, subdivision
1.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1990, section 43A.181,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:
Subdivision 1. [DONATION OF VACATION TIME.] A state
employee may donate up to eight 12 hours of accrued vacation
time in any fiscal year to the account established by
subdivision 2 for the benefit of another state employee. The
employee must notify the employee's agency head of the amount of
accrued vacation time the employee wishes to donate and the name
of the other state employee who is to benefit from the
donation. The agency head shall determine the monetary value of
the donated time, using the gross salary of the employee making
the donation. The agency head shall transfer that amount, less
deductions for applicable taxes and retirement contributions, to
the account established by subdivision 2. A donation of accrued
vacation time is irrevocable once its monetary value has been
transferred to the account.
Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
