RESOLUTION 18-H.F.No. 2134
A resolution memorializing the governments of the
United States and the Federal Republic of Germany that
the State of Minnesota adopts the Land of Bayern as a
sister state.
WHEREAS, the Land of Bavaria is similar to the State of
Minnesota in its orientation toward agriculture and industry;
and
WHEREAS, the Land of Bavaria is renowned for its forests
and recreational opportunities as is the State of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, both Bavaria and Minnesota are rich in educational
institutions and cultural life; and
WHEREAS, both Bavaria and Minnesota have free and vigorous
democratic institutions; and
WHEREAS, many citizens of Minnesota directly trace their
family roots to Bavaria; and
WHEREAS, a sister-state relationship between the Land of
Bavaria and the State of Minnesota will establish greater
cooperation and understanding between the people of Bavaria and
this state; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota
that it declares that the Land of Bayern, known in English as
Bavaria, of the Federal Republic of Germany is the sister state
of Minnesota. It invites the people and government of Bayern to
work with Minnesotans to establish mutually beneficial social,
economic, educational, and cultural programs to bring our
respective citizens together and strengthen international
understanding and goodwill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the
State of Minnesota is directed to prepare certified copies of
this resolution and forward them to the President and Secretary
of State of the United States, the President and Foreign
Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, to appropriate
officials of the Land of Bayern, and the Minister-President of
Bayern.
