RESOLUTION 11--H.F.No. 1269
A resolution memorializing the governments of the
United States and the Republic of China that the State
of Minnesota adopts the Province of Taiwan as a sister
state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
WHEREAS, the people of the Province of Taiwan have been
among the most trusted of friends of the American people; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Province of Taiwan have built a
prosperous, successful, and free economy, and are important
trading partners of the American people; and
WHEREAS, the goals of the people of the Province of Taiwan
and the people of the State of Minnesota are similar in nature
and strong commercial ties between the people of the Province of
Taiwan and the people of the State of Minnesota now exist; and
WHEREAS, a sister-state relationship between the Province
of Taiwan and the State of Minnesota will establish greater
cooperation and understanding between the people of this state
and the people of the Province of Taiwan, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota
that it declares that the Province of Taiwan, the Republic of
China, is a sister state of Minnesota. It invites the people
and government of Taiwan to conduct mutually beneficial social,
economic, educational, and cultural programs as to bring our
citizens closer together and strengthen international
understanding and goodwill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the
State of Minnesota is directed to prepare certified copies of
this resolution and forward them to the President and Secretary
of State of the United States, the President of the Republic of
China, executive and legislative officials of the Province of
Taiwan, and the Senators and Representatives in Congress from
Minnesota.
