An act
relating to public beaches; requiring lifeguards at public beaches to have certain minimum training;
proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 471.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin (1) "political subdivision" means a statutory or home rule charter city, county, town, or other political subdivision; and new text end
new text begin (2) "public swimming beach" means an area abutting a body of water, other than a swimming pool governed by section 144.1222, owned or operated by the political subdivision, whether directly or under agreement with another public or private entity, intended to be open to the public for swimming. new text end
new text begin If a political subdivision provides for lifeguards to be present at a public swimming beach, each lifeguard must be certified in first aid and adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, have American Red Cross lifeguard certification or the equivalent, and be responsible for the supervision and safety of persons at the public swimming beach while on duty. new text end
