An act

relating to public safety; authorizing county attorneys and assistant county attorneys to carry firearms on duty under the terms of a permit to carry;

amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 388.051, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 388.051, is amended by adding a subdivision to read:

Subd. 4.

Firearms exemption.

Notwithstanding section 626.84, subdivision 2, a county attorney, or an assistant county attorney appointed under section 388.10, who lawfully possesses a permit to carry a pistol issued in accordance with section 624.714 may possess and carry a firearm while on duty, unless restricted by the county attorney.

EFFECTIVE DATE.

This section is effective the day following final enactment.
