An act relating to employment; adding an alternative
form for minor age certification; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2000, section 181A.06, subdivision 1.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 181A.06,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:
Subdivision 1. Every employer shall require proof of the
age of any minor employee or prospective employee by requiring
the minor to submit an age certificate, a copy of the minor's
birth certificate, or a copy of the minor's driver's license, or
a United States Department of Justice Immigration and
Naturalization Service Employment Eligibility Verification Form
I-9. Upon the request of a minor, an age certificate shall be
issued by or under the authority of the school superintendent of
the district in which the applicant resides. Superintendents,
principals, or headmasters of independent or parochial schools
shall issue age certificates to minors who attend such schools.
