An act relating to game and fish; requiring a fishing
guide license on the St. Louis river estuary; amending
Minnesota Statutes 1998, sections 97A.475, subdivision
15; and 97C.311, subdivision 1.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 97A.475,
subdivision 15, is amended to read:
Subd. 15. [LAKE SUPERIOR FISHING GUIDES.] The fee for a
license to operate a charter boat and guide anglers on Lake
Superior or the St. Louis river estuary is:
(1) for a resident, $35;
(2) for a nonresident, $140; or
(3) if another state charges a Minnesota resident a fee
greater than $140 for a Lake Superior or St. Louis river estuary
fishing guide license in that state, the nonresident fee for a
resident of that state is that greater fee.
Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 97C.311,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:
Subdivision 1. [LICENSE REQUIRED.] A person may not
operate a charter boat and guide anglers on Lake Superior or the
St. Louis river estuary for compensation without a Lake Superior
fishing guide license. For purposes of this subdivision and
section 97A.475, subdivision 15, "St. Louis river estuary" means
the United States Coast Guard navigable waters of the lower St.
Louis river to the Minnesota state highway No. 23 bridge.
