CHAPTER 358-S.F.No. 3084 An act relating to reemployment insurance; providing additional benefits for certain individuals on layoff from a certain employer; providing an exemption from certain requirements. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. [EXEMPTION FROM ADDITIONAL BENEFITS REQUIREMENTS.] Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, subdivisions 1, and 3, clauses (1) and (6), a claimant is eligible to receive additional benefits under Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, if: (1) the claimant was laid off due to lack of work from the Hibbing Taconite Company in St. Louis county between the months of July and September of 1997; and (2) the commissioner of economic security finds that the claimant satisfies the conditions of Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, subdivision 3, clauses (2) to (5). Sec. 2. [RETIREMENT EXCEPTION.] Section 1 shall not apply to any claimant who, with respect to any period prior to September 1, 1998, receives, or has an agreement to receive, a retirement pension financed in whole or in part by the Hibbing Taconite Company. Sec. 3. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final enactment. Presented to the governor April 2, 1998 Became law without the governor's signature April 6, 1998
