An act relating to courts; extending the streamlined
dissolution procedure pilot project; modifying the
duties and powers of a referee for the duration of a
family court block calendar pilot program; amending
Laws 1991, chapter 271, section 9.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Laws 1991, chapter 271, section 9, is amended
to read:
Sec. 9. [REPEALER.]
Section 5 is repealed effective July 1, 1996 1997, for
cases filed on or after that date.
Sec. 2. [PILOT PROJECT; COMBINED JURISDICTION COURT.]
Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 260.031,
subdivision 4, and 484.70, subdivisions 6 and 7, paragraphs (d)
and (e), the second judicial district may implement a pilot
project to improve the resolution of family problems by
assigning related family, probate, and juvenile court matters,
other than delinquency proceedings, to a single judge or referee.
The second judicial district shall report to the supreme
court by August 1, 1998, on the effectiveness of the combined
jurisdiction court.
Sec. 3. [REPEALER.]
Section 2 is repealed when the project is completed, or
June 30, 1998, whichever occurs earlier.
Sec. 4. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final
enactment.
