                            CHAPTER 645-H.F.No. 942 
                  An act relating to traffic regulations; requiring 
                  every driver to use due care in operating a motor 
                  vehicle; amending Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 
                  169.14, subdivision 1. 
        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
           Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 169.14, 
        subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
           Subdivision 1.  [BASIC RULE; INATTENTIVE DRIVING.] No 
        person shall drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater 
        than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having 
        regard to.  Every driver is responsible for becoming and 
        remaining aware of the actual and potential hazards then 
        existing on the highway and must use due care in operating a 
        vehicle.  In every event speed shall be so restricted as may be 
        necessary to avoid colliding with any person, vehicle or other 
        conveyance on or entering the highway in compliance with legal 
        requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care. 
           Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
           Section 1 is effective August 1, 1994, and applies to 
        offenses committed on or after that date.
