CHAPTER 56-H.F.No. 520
An act relating to retirement; authorizing a second
chance Medicare coverage referendum for certain public
pension plan members.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. [SECOND CHANCE MEDICARE COVERAGE REFERENDUM FOR
CERTAIN PUBLIC PENSION PLAN MEMBERS.]
A basic member of the teachers retirement association who:
(1) was born on May 19, 1928;
(2) became employed as a teacher in 1953; and
(3) is presently employed as a teacher by independent
school district No. 77
may elect Medicare coverage under Minnesota Statutes, section
355.90, in a second social security referendum held for that
purpose by the department of employee relations.
If elected in the referendum, Medicare coverage is
effective on the first of the month next following the
referendum.
Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
