                        CHAPTER 149-S.F.No. 629 
           An act relating to public employment; permitting 
          interest arbitration on retired public employee group 
          insurance coverage for units of essential employees; 
          amending Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 179A.16, 
          subdivision 9. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
    Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 179A.16, 
subdivision 9, is amended to read: 
    Subd. 9.  [NO ARBITRATION.] Failure to reach agreement on 
employer payment of, or contributions toward, premiums for group 
insurance coverage of retired employees is not subject to 
interest arbitration procedures under this section, except for 
units of essential employees. 
     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment, 
and applies to written requests for arbitration filed with the 
commissioner of mediation services after that date.
