An act relating to retirement; public employees
retirement association; permitting payment in lieu of
salary deductions to obtain service credit
notwithstanding a one-year time limitation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. [RAMSEY COUNTY EMPLOYEE; PERA CONTRIBUTIONS.]
Subdivision 1. [ELECTION AUTHORIZATION.] Notwithstanding
the one-year time limitation for payments for a period of an
authorized leave of absence without pay under Minnesota
Statutes, section 353.01, subdivision 16, paragraph (c), an
employee of Ramsey county who was born on October 13, 1941, may
elect to make a payment in lieu of salary deductions for periods
of authorized leave of absence without pay occurring from
September 10, 1990, to October 29, 1990, and from February 12,
1991, to June 2, 1991.
Subd. 2. [AMOUNT OF PAYMENT.] If the employee elects to
make payment under subdivision 1, a single lump sum payment, as
provided under Minnesota Statutes, section 353.01, subdivision
16, paragraph (c), must be paid to the association on or before
July 1, 1993. Ramsey county may, at its discretion, certify to
the association in writing its commitment to pay the employer
and additional employer contributions as provided under
Minnesota Statutes, section 353.01, subdivision 16, paragraph
(c). Any amount under this subdivision that is not paid by
Ramsey county must be paid by the person described in
subdivision 1.
Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
