An act relating to juries; prohibiting exclusion from
jury service based on a disability; amending Minnesota
Statutes 1990, section 593.32.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1990, section 593.32, is
amended to read:
593.32 [PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATION.]
A citizen shall not be excluded from jury service in this
state on account of race, color, religion, sex, national origin,
or economic status, or a physical or sensory disability.
Sec. 2. [CERTAIN CHALLENGES FOR CAUSE.]
Nothing in section 1 restricts the right to strike an
individual from being impaneled on a jury for cause based on a
showing that a physical or sensory disability will impair the
juror's ability to try a particular case.
