An act relating to local government; permitting
counties, cities, and towns to contribute to certain
hospitals; amending Minnesota Statutes 1988, section
376.09; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 465.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1988, section 376.09, is
amended to read:
376.09 [AID TO HOSPITALS IN COUNTIES HAVING NO COUNTY
HOSPITAL.]
In any county in which there is no county hospital, the
county board may appropriate and pay money from the general fund
of the county, for the construction and, maintenance, and
operation of a private, nonprofit, or public hospital in the
county for the treatment of sick, diseased, and injured
persons. Admission preference shall always be given to patients
who are, in whole or in part, public charges, and are sent to
the hospital by the county board.
Sec. 2. [465.037] [GIFTS TO HOSPITALS.]
A home rule charter or statutory city or town may make
grants for the use of a private, nonprofit or public hospital
that serves the city or town when authorized by the council in
the case of a city and the town board in the case of a town upon
the affirmative vote of the town electors at the annual or a
special town meeting.
