RESOLUTION 16-S.F.No. 2546
A resolution memorializing the United States Olympic
Committee of state support for the bid for the games
of the XXVI Olympiad.
WHEREAS, in 1987, the State of Minnesota committed
$20,000,000 for new amateur sports facilities and training
centers and established an ongoing funding mechanism for the
operation of these facilities; and
WHEREAS, in 1987, the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission
was established to further amateur sports throughout the State
of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota has an extensive track record in
successfully bidding for and hosting major sports events; and
WHEREAS, the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area was selected to
host the 1990 Olympic Festival; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota now has, with minor enhancements, the
capacity to host the Games of the XXVI Olympiad; and
WHEREAS, the hosting of the Games of the XXVI Olympiad will
enhance the stature of the state as a whole; and
WHEREAS, there is a high level of private sector financial
support and encouragement for the bid for the Games of the XXVI
Olympiad, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota
that it supports the bid for the Games of the XXVI Olympiad.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the
State of Minnesota is directed to prepare certified copies of
this resolution and transmit them to the International Olympic
Committee and the United States Olympic Committee.
