                        CHAPTER 248-S.F.No. 927 
           An act relating to driver's licenses; providing for a 
          medical alert identifier; amending Minnesota Statutes 
          1986, section 171.07, by adding a subdivision.  
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
    Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1986, section 171.07, is 
amended by adding a subdivision to read:  
    Subd. 6.  [MEDICAL ALERT IDENTIFIER.] Upon the written 
request of the applicant, the department shall issue a driver's 
license or Minnesota identification card bearing a medical alert 
identifier.  The applicant must request the medical alert 
identifier at the time the photograph is taken.  No specific 
medical information will be contained on the driver's license or 
Minnesota identification card.
