RESOLUTION 3-H.F.No. 886
A resolution memorializing the governments of the
United States and Sweden that the State of Minnesota
adopts the County of Kronoberg as a sister state.
WHEREAS, the County of Kronoberg is similar to the State of
Minnesota in its orientation toward forestry and industry; and
WHEREAS, the County of Kronoberg is renowned for its
forests and recreational opportunities as is the State of
Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, both Kronoberg and Minnesota are rich in
educational institutions and cultural life; and
WHEREAS, both Kronoberg and Minnesota have free and
vigorous democratic institutions; and
WHEREAS, many citizens of Minnesota directly trace their
family roots to the County of Kronoberg in Smaland; and
WHEREAS, a sister state relationship between the County of
Kronoberg and the State of Minnesota will establish greater
cooperation and understanding between the people of Kronoberg
and this state; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota
that it declares that the County of Kronoberg, Sweden, is the
sister state of Minnesota. It invites the people and government
of Kronoberg to work with Minnesotans to establish mutually
beneficial social, economic, educational, and cultural programs
to bring our respective citizens together and strengthen
international understanding and goodwill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the
State of Minnesota is directed to prepare certified copies of
this memorial and forward them to the President and Secretary of
State of the United States, and to his Royal Majesty the King of
Sweden, and the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of
Sweden, and to appropriate officials of the County of Kronoberg
in Smaland.
