           An act relating to environment; requiring the 
          commissioner of health to monitor the quality of water 
          in private water wells in the metropolitan area; 
          amending Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 473.845, 
          subdivision 2. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
    Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 473.845, 
subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
    Subd. 2.  [WATER SUPPLY MONITORING.] Up to ten percent of 
the money in the fund may be appropriated to the commissioner of 
health for water supply monitoring.  The commissioner shall 
monitor the quality of water in public water supply wells and 
may monitor private water supply wells in the metropolitan area 
that may be affected by their location in relation to a facility 
for mixed municipal solid waste.  Testing under this subdivision 
must be for substances not funded under the Federal Safe 
Drinking Water Act.
