An act relating to recreational vehicles; requiring
registration of snowmobiles; exemption; abolishing
special registration requirements for collector's
snowmobiles; amending Minnesota Statutes 1984, section
84.82, subdivision 6, and by adding a subdivision;
repealing Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 84.82,
subdivision 9.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 84.82, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:
Subd. 1a. [GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.] A person may not operate
or transport a snowmobile unless the snowmobile has been
registered under this section. A person may not sell a
snowmobile without furnishing the buyer a bill of sale on a form
prescribed by the commissioner.
Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 84.82,
subdivision 6, is amended to read:
Subd. 6. [EXEMPTIONS.] No registration hereunder shall be
required for the following described snowmobiles:
(a) Snowmobiles owned and used by the United States,
another state, or a political subdivision thereof.
(b) Snowmobiles registered in a country other than the
United States temporarily used within this state.
(c) Snowmobiles covered by a valid license of another state
and which have not been within this state for more than 30
consecutive days.
(d) Snowmobiles used exclusively in organized track racing
events.
(e) Snowmobiles in transit by a manufacturer, distributor,
or dealer.
Sec. 3. [REPEALER.]
Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 84.82, subdivision 9, is
repealed.
Sec. 4. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
This act is effective the day after final enactment.
