Rule 17.Involuntary Retirement

(a)Procedure.

A judge who refuses to retire voluntarily may be involuntarily retired by the Supreme Court. If attempts to convince a judge to retire voluntarily fail, then the board shall proceed as provided in Rules 8, 9, 10, and 11. The Supreme Court shall then proceed as provided in Rule 14.

(b)Effect of Involuntary Retirement.

A judge who is involuntarily retired shall be ineligible to perform judicial duties pending further order of the Supreme Court and may, upon order of the Supreme Court, be transferred to inactive status or indefinitely suspended from practicing law in the jurisdiction.
