  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to telecommunications; prohibiting toll 
  1.3             charges for telephone calls originating and 
  1.4             terminating within a school district; proposing coding 
  1.5             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 237. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [237.741] [NO LONG DISTANCE CHARGE FOR CALL 
  1.8   WITHIN SCHOOL DISTRICT.] 
  1.9      Notwithstanding any law, rule, or order to the contrary, no 
  1.10  provider of long distance telephone service may charge a toll, 
  1.11  or impose any extra charge of any kind, for telephone calls 
  1.12  originating and terminating within any single school district in 
  1.13  the state.  For purposes of this section, if two or more local 
  1.14  telephone exchanges provide local telephone service wholly or 
  1.15  partially within a school district, the entire school district 
  1.16  is deemed to be within the local calling area of each of those 
  1.17  exchanges.
