  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; health; requiring coverage for 
  1.3             periodic prostate cancer screening; proposing coding 
  1.4             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62Q.50] [PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING.] 
  1.7      A health plan must provide prostate cancer screening at 
  1.8   least once every five years for men 35 to 45 years of age; once 
  1.9   every two years for men 46 to 55 years of age; and annually for 
  1.10  men 56 years of age and older. 
  1.11     The screening must consist at a minimum of a 
  1.12  prostate-specific antigen blood test and a digital rectal 
  1.13  examination. 
  1.14     This coverage is subject to any deductible, coinsurance, 
  1.15  copayment, or other limitation on coverage applicable to other 
  1.16  coverages under the plan. 
  1.17     For purposes of this section, "health plan" includes 
  1.18  coverage that is excluded under section 62A.011, subdivision 3, 
  1.19  clauses (7) and (10). 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.21     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1996, and applies to all 
  1.22  health plans issued or renewed to provide coverage to Minnesota 
  1.23  residents on or after that date.
