1.9We, the undersigned conferees for S.F. No. 1477 report that we have agreed upon
1.10the items in dispute and recommend as follows:
1.11That the House recede from its amendments and that S.F. No. 1477 be further
1.12amended as follows:
1.13Delete everything after the enacting clause and insert:

1.14    "Section 1. LIMITED EXEMPTION FROM STATE BUILDING CODE;
1.15REDWOOD COUNTY.
1.16(a) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, an eligible structure described in
1.17paragraph (c) shall be exempted from compliance with the following automatic sprinkler
1.18system provisions:
1.19(1) the sprinkler system provision of the 2006 edition of the International Building
1.20Code, section 903.2.1.2, as adopted by the State Building Code; and
1.21(2) the sprinkler system provision of the 2006 edition of the International Fire Code,
1.22section 903.2.1.2, as adopted by the State Fire Code.
1.23(b) An eligible structure described in paragraph (c) that is exempt from and does not
1.24comply with the automatic sprinkler system provisions described in paragraph (a) shall
1.25comply with the following requirements:
1.26(1) the structure must have at least five permanently installed exit doors;
1.27(2) the structure must be equipped with at least two fire extinguishers; and
1.28(3) the structure must be equipped with at least two smoke detectors.
2.1(c) An eligible structure is one that:
2.2(1) is located in Redwood County and is on the property known as the Gilfillan
2.3Estate;
2.4(2) is owned by a historical society formed in 1949;
2.5(3) is currently less than 2,800 square feet in total area with an occupant load of
2.6fewer than 200 occupants, and, after expansion and renovation, will be less than 7,000
2.7square feet in total area with an occupant load of fewer than 400 occupants;
2.8(4) has use and occupancy classification codes of "A-2" and "B" under the 2006
2.9edition of the International Building Code, as adopted by the State Building Code; and
2.10(5) was built in 1998.
2.11(d) For purposes of certification of plans pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section
2.12326.03, subdivision 1, and Minnesota Rules, chapters 1800 and 1805, if an architecture
2.13plan of a structure otherwise complies with applicable laws, ordinances, and building
2.14codes relating to design, any plan relating to a structure described in paragraph (c) that
2.15does not include plans for an automatic sprinkler system exempted in paragraph (a) shall be
2.16deemed to comply with applicable laws, ordinances, and building codes relating to design.
2.17(e) The exemption provided in this section expires July 1, 2019.
2.18EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment."
