  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to sexual assault; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             commissioner of corrections for sexual assault program 
  1.4             grants.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [SEXUAL ASSAULT PROGRAMS; GRANTS; 
  1.7   APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.8      $7,782,000 is appropriated in fiscal years 1996 and 1997 
  1.9   from the general fund to the commissioner of corrections to be 
  1.10  used to fund grants to sexual assault programs.  The 
  1.11  commissioner shall award grants in a manner that ensures that 
  1.12  they are equitably distributed to metropolitan and 
  1.13  nonmetropolitan counties.  Grant money for sexual assault 
  1.14  programs may be used to:  
  1.15     (1) establish and maintain sexual services; 
  1.16     (2) increase the funding base for providers of services to 
  1.17  victims of sexual assault; 
  1.18     (3) establish and maintain six new programs to serve 
  1.19  unserviced and underserviced populations; and 
  1.20     (4) fund special need programs.
