  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the environment; restricting insecticide 
  1.3             uses by the metropolitan mosquito control commission; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 473.704, by 
  1.5             adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 473.704, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 18a.  [USE OF PYRETHROID PRODUCTS.] Pyrethroid 
  1.10  products may only be used for mosquito control upon 
  1.11  demonstration by independent scientific field studies that the 
  1.12  products, when used at the doses necessary to kill mosquitoes, 
  1.13  do not have significant impacts on insect biodiversity or 
  1.14  abundance.  The studies must measure effects of the products on 
  1.15  both overall insect diversity, and specific effects on 
  1.16  butterflies, moths, and mosquito predators.  The studies must be 
  1.17  paid for by funds available to the metropolitan mosquito control 
  1.18  district.
