  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to housing; appropriating money for a 
  1.3             nonprofit community organization to provide low-cost 
  1.4             housing to low-income families and individuals. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   housing finance agency for a grant to a nonprofit, member-run 
  1.9   community organization located in a city of the first class.  To 
  1.10  be eligible for the grant, the organization must focus its 
  1.11  efforts in neighborhoods with high levels of poverty and a lack 
  1.12  of affordable housing, provide low-cost permanent and rental 
  1.13  housing at below market rates to low-income individuals and 
  1.14  families, and have a demonstrable track record of success and 
  1.15  ability to raise funds from private and public sources.  The 
  1.16  appropriation is available for the biennium ending June 30, 1997.
