  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; modifying the compensatory 
  1.3             education revenue program; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.4             1996, section 124A.28, subdivision 1a, and by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 124A.28, 
  1.8   subdivision 1a, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [BUILDING ALLOCATION.] A district must 
  1.10  consider allocate the compensatory revenue that it receives to 
  1.11  each school building in direct proportion to the concentration 
  1.12  of children from low-income families in each school building in 
  1.13  the district when allocating compensatory revenue. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 124A.28, is 
  1.15  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.16     Subd. 4.  [ANNUAL STUDENT ASSESSMENT.] Each year, a school 
  1.17  district that receives compensatory revenue shall report to the 
  1.18  department by school site on the level of educational 
  1.19  achievement during the current and preceding school years for 
  1.20  students who received services under subdivision 1. 
  1.21     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 1997.
