  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; requiring financial 
  1.3             security in connection with certain fishing contests; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 97C.081, 
  1.5             subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 97C.081, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [CONTESTS AUTHORIZED BY COMMISSIONER.] (a) The 
  1.10  commissioner may, by rule or permit, allow fishing contests with 
  1.11  entry fees over $10 per person or total prizes valued at more 
  1.12  than $2,000.  Permits must be issued without a fee and The 
  1.13  commissioner may charge a fee not to exceed $50.  If the 
  1.14  commissioner does not deny the permit within 14 days, excluding 
  1.15  holidays, after receipt of an application, the permit is granted.
  1.16     (b) The applicant shall furnish the commissioner evidence 
  1.17  of financial responsibility consisting of a surety bond, 
  1.18  insurance policy, cash, or cash equivalent deposit in an amount 
  1.19  not less than the total wholesale amount of prizes to be offered 
  1.20  in the contest, if the applicant: 
  1.21     (1) has not previously conducted a fishing contest 
  1.22  requiring a permit under this subdivision; or 
  1.23     (2) has ever failed to make required prize awards in a 
  1.24  fishing contest conducted by the applicant.
