  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; modifying the 
  1.3             registration fee system for snowmobiles; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 84.82, subdivision 3. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 84.82, 
  1.7   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 3.  [FEES FOR REGISTRATION.] (a) The fee for 
  1.9   registration of each snowmobile, other than those used for an 
  1.10  agricultural purpose, as defined in section 84.92, subdivision 
  1.11  1c, or those registered by a dealer or manufacturer pursuant to 
  1.12  clause paragraph (b) or (c) shall be as follows:  $45 for every 
  1.13  three years and for the nine years following the date of the 
  1.14  first sale of the snowmobile.  For snowmobiles more than nine 
  1.15  years old, the fee shall be $45 for permanent registration.  The 
  1.16  commissioner may charge $4 for a duplicate or transfer of a 
  1.17  three-year registration and $45 for transfer of a permanent 
  1.18  registration.  The commissioner may charge $4 for a duplicate 
  1.19  registration. 
  1.20     (b) The total registration fee for all snowmobiles owned by 
  1.21  a dealer and operated for demonstration or testing purposes 
  1.22  shall be $50 per year. 
  1.23     (c) The total registration fee for all snowmobiles owned by 
  1.24  a manufacturer and operated for research, testing, 
  1.25  experimentation, or demonstration purposes shall be $150 per 
  2.1   year.  Dealer and manufacturer registrations are not 
  2.2   transferable.
