  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to data practices; clarifying the 
  1.3             classification of communication records of certain 
  1.4             public officials; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.5             section 10.46. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 10.46, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      10.46 [TELEPHONE COMMUNICATION RECORDS PUBLIC.] 
  1.10     Long-distance All telephone bills, including bills for 
  1.11  facsimile transmission, paid for by the state or a political 
  1.12  subdivision, including those of representatives, senators, 
  1.13  judges, constitutional officers, heads of departments and 
  1.14  agencies, local officials, and employees thereof, are public 
  1.15  data.  The addresses to which e-mail messages are sent by any of 
  1.16  the named officials or employees are also public data.  This 
  1.17  section supersedes any contrary provision in chapter 13.  
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective retroactive to May 25, 1993.
