  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; regulating coverages; requiring 
  1.3             certain cancer screening coverage; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1998, section 62A.30, subdivision 2. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 62A.30, 
  1.7   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 2.  [REQUIRED COVERAGE.] Every policy, plan, 
  1.9   certificate, or contract referred to in subdivision 1 issued or 
  1.10  renewed after August 1, 1988, that provides coverage to a 
  1.11  Minnesota resident must provide coverage for routine screening 
  1.12  procedures for cancer, including mammograms, CA 125 blood test 
  1.13  or other appropriate screening for ovarian cancer, and pap 
  1.14  smears, when ordered or provided by a physician qualified health 
  1.15  care practitioner in accordance with the standard practice of 
  1.16  medicine. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2000, and applies to 
  1.19  policies, plans, certificates, and contracts issued or renewed 
  1.20  on or after that date to provide coverage to Minnesota residents.
