A bill for an act
relating to motor vehicles; authorizing special plates for all disabled veterans;
making technical changes; amending Minnesota Statutes 2005 Supplement,
section 168.1251, subdivisions 1, 5.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2005 Supplement, section 168.1251, subdivision 1,
is amended to read:


Subdivision 1.

Issuance and design.

The commissioner shall issue special license
plates bearing the inscription "DISABLED deleted text begin AMERICANdeleted text end VETERAN" to an applicant
who is certified in writing by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the
state commissioner of veterans affairs as having deleted text begin a permanent and total service-connected
disability
deleted text end new text begin been awarded a claim for disability from the United States Department of
Veterans Affairs
new text end , who complies with all laws relating to the registration and licensing of
motor vehicles and drivers, and who pays a fee of $10 for each set of license plates applied
for. The new text begin commissioner of veterans affairs shall design the new text end special license plates deleted text begin must be of
a design and size determined by the commissioner
deleted text end new text begin subject to the approval of the registrarnew text end .

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2005 Supplement, section 168.1251, subdivision 5, is
amended to read:


Subd. 5.

Motor vehicle; special definition.

For purposes of this section, "motor
vehicle" means a vehicle for personal use, not used for commercial purposes, and may
include a passenger automobile, deleted text begin van, pickup truck,deleted text end motorcycle, or recreational vehicle.
