  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; restricting smoking in state or 
  1.3             federally assisted rental housing; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1998, section 144.414, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 144.414, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [STATE OR FEDERALLY ASSISTED RENTAL HOUSING.] An 
  1.10  owner of state or federally assisted rental housing must ensure 
  1.11  that a block of at least 25 percent of the rental units in a 
  1.12  building is designated as an area where smoking is prohibited.
