  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to courts; updating the law governing court 
  1.3             administrators; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.4             section 485.018, subdivision 2; repealing Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1996, sections 357.07; and 485.018, 
  1.6             subdivisions 1 and 4. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 485.018, 
  1.9   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [SET BY BOARD.] The county board of each of the 
  1.11  counties specified in subdivision 1 annually shall set by 
  1.12  resolution the salary of the court administrator of district 
  1.13  court which shall be paid to the court administrator of district 
  1.14  court at such intervals as the board shall determine but not 
  1.15  less often than once each month.  At the January meeting the 
  1.16  board shall set by resolution the minimum salary to be paid the 
  1.17  court administrator of district court for the term next 
  1.18  following.  In the event a vacancy occurs in the office of the 
  1.19  court administrator of district court the board may set the 
  1.20  annual salary for the remainder of the calendar year at an 
  1.21  amount less than was set for that year.  The board in any case 
  1.22  specified in this subdivision may not set the annual salary at 
  1.23  an amount less than the minimums provided in subdivision 1 but 
  1.24  it may set the salary in excess of such minimums.  The salary of 
  1.25  the court administrator of district court shall not be reduced 
  1.26  during the term for which the court administrator is appointed. 
  2.1      In the event that duties are assigned to the court 
  2.2   administrator of district court which are in addition to the 
  2.3   court administrator's duties as court administrator, additional 
  2.4   compensation may be provided for the additional duties.  The 
  2.5   county board by resolution shall determine the additional 
  2.6   compensation which shall be paid and specify the duties for 
  2.7   which the additional compensation is to be paid. 
  2.8      Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  2.9      Minnesota Statutes 1996, sections 357.07; and 485.018, 
  2.10  subdivisions 1 and 4, are repealed.
