  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; exempting certain nursing 
  1.3             homes from wage increases; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.4             1996, section 256B.431, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 256B.431, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 27.  [NURSING HOMES OWNED BY A POLITICAL 
  1.9   SUBDIVISION.] For rate years beginning on or after July 1, 1998, 
  1.10  nursing homes that are owned by a political subdivision and are 
  1.11  required under the provisions of sections 471.991 to 471.999 to 
  1.12  increase wages, shall be exempt from subdivision 26, paragraphs 
  1.13  (a) through (d), for the amount of the wage increase.  Nursing 
  1.14  homes reimbursed under the provisions of section 256B.434, that 
  1.15  are required to increase wages under the provisions of sections 
  1.16  471.991 to 471.999, shall have their base contract rate 
  1.17  increased by an amount equal to that of the required wage 
  1.18  increase.
