A bill for an act
 relating to human services; waiving background study fees for prospective
adoptive parents; amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 260C.601,
subdivision 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 260C.601, subdivision 3, is amended to
read:


Subd. 3.

Background study.

new text begin (a) new text end Consistent with section 245C.33 and United States
Code, title 42, section 671, a completed background study is required before the adoptive
placement of the child in a related or an unrelated home.

new text begin (b) The commissioner shall waive all fees associated with completion of background
studies for prospective adoptive parents and families when these individuals apply to
adopt a child under the guardianship of the commissioner.
