  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to higher education; requesting the 
  1.3             University of Minnesota and Minnesota state colleges 
  1.4             and universities to develop policy allowing students 
  1.5             to rent instructional materials; proposing coding for 
  1.6             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 135A. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [135A.125] [RENTING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.] 
  1.9      The board of trustees of the Minnesota state colleges and 
  1.10  universities shall, and the board of regents of the University 
  1.11  of Minnesota is requested to, develop a policy by August 1, 
  1.12  2002, that would permit students to rent textbooks and other 
  1.13  instructional materials used in courses being offered at public 
  1.14  post-secondary institutions.
