  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; creating a levy to 
  1.3             reimburse school districts for their unfunded special 
  1.4             education costs; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 125A. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [125A.795] [UNFUNDED SPECIAL EDUCATION COSTS.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [SPECIAL EDUCATION CROSS-SUBSIDY 
  1.9   REVENUE.] A school district is eligible for special education 
  1.10  cross-subsidy revenue equal to its adjusted cross-subsidy 
  1.11  revenue for the second previous year. 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [LEVY.] A school district's special education 
  1.13  adjusted cross-subsidy levy equals the district's special 
  1.14  education cross-subsidy revenue. 
  1.15     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for taxes 
  1.16  payable in 2003.
