A bill for an act
relating to insurance; requiring mental health parity in group disability income
insurance; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 72A.20, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 72A.20, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

company may offer, issue, sell, or renew a group disability income policy in this state that
provides benefit coverages for disability due to mental illness, including depression, that
are different from those it provides for physical illness.

new text begin This section is effective January 1, 2007, and applies to group
policies offered, issued, sold, or renewed on or after that date.
