A bill for an act
relating to education finance; authorizing grants to intermediate school districts
for professional development activities to eradicate exclusionary practices;
appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. GRANTS TO ERADICATE EXCLUSIONARY PRACTICES.

Subdivision 1.

Grant authorized.

An intermediate school district may apply to
the commissioner of education for a grant of up to $250,000 to provide professional
development to teachers and other school staff to reduce student suspensions and eradicate
other exclusionary policies. The commissioner shall determine the form and manner
of the grant application.

Subd. 2.

Appropriation.

$750,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 2015 from the
general fund to the commissioner of education for grants to intermediate school districts
under subdivision 1. This is a onetime appropriation.
