1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to local government; increasing amount that counties may appropriate
1.3for Memorial Day observances;amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections
1.4375.34; 375.35.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 375.34, is amended to read:
1.7375.34 MEMORIAL DAY, APPROPRIATION FOR OBSERVANCE.
1.8The county board of each county may appropriate from the revenue fund of the
1.9county not more than $2,000 $3,500 annually to aid in the observance of Memorial Day in
1.10commemoration of the noble and valiant deeds of the nation's soldier dead.
1.11EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.

1.12    Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 375.35, is amended to read:
1.13375.35 $100 $300 TO MILITARY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS FOR
1.14MEMORIAL DAY.
1.15A county board may also appropriate annually not more than $100 $300 to each post
1.16of a recognized military service persons' organization or society, holding charter from
1.17Congress or incorporated in this state, organized and existing in the county, to defray
1.18the expenses of Memorial Day exercises.
1.19EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
